Name: Jayne Alison
Job Title:Business Development Manager
Jayne has been in hospitality for most of her working life. On leaving school, she worked as a receptionist for Jarvis and Marriott hotel groups, moving into Conference and Events, then Sales. She also spent several years as a troubleshooter, going into under-performing hotels and driving up standards and setting performance targets. Jayne even spent a couple of years in recruitment, but found the draw of hospitality was too great to stay away!
Having developed her experience, Jayne was keen to work in a 5-star setting, but did not want to move to London, when Luton Hoo announced it’s opening and was searching for staff, she was keen to be a part of this new venture.
Jayne has been at Luton Hoo for over 10 years and has seen her role grow and develop, getting all the systems and procedures in place, recruiting and developing a successful sales team and the opening of Warren Weir – the exceptional self-contained conference venue in the grounds of Luton Hoo. However, Jayne relishes the challenge of her role and loves the diversity it offers. Aside from the day to day hustle, she has forged fantastic working relationships with a number of different local industries, including Luton Borough Council, Luton Airport and Vauxhall. She also sits on the Love Luton Board with other large local employers. Her role also allows her to build long-standing relationships and negotiate large contracts with other businesses – so it is incredibly varied.
Although Jayne recognises that hospitality will often ask you to work unsocial hours – this is something you need to be prepared for if you want a career in the industry. In return, you do get to work in a fun and interesting industry that offer endless variety – no two days are the same. “You will never get bored!”
Her biggest achievement so far would have to be opening a 5 star hotel, generating new business and building solid teams. Elite has also given Jayne the opportunity to further develop her skills, having attended numerous training courses in sales and business development.
So how would Jayne describe working for Elite hotels in 3 words?
“Proud, inspiring and privileged”
