The Grand Hotel in Eastbourne is celebrating one of its hardest working members of staff, having named Melissa Bohnen employee of the year.
Melissa joined the team at The Grand in 2010, starting as a reservationist before moving into her current role in the events department in late 2017.
Nominated for employee of the year in both 2017 and 2018, Melissa has impressed senior management at the hotel with her enthusiasm for the job and her supportive attitude to colleagues as well as guests. General manager of the five-star seafront hotel Jonathan Webley presented the award to Melissa at The Grand’s staff Christmas party in January.
On receiving the award, Melissa said: “I feel very proud to have won this award, especially as it is the second time I have been nominated. I love working in the events team at The Grand; the team I work with are great and I really enjoy getting to meet clients and help plan special moments in their lives. Every event is unique and each is incredibly important to the person organising it, so it’s vital that they are all treated with the same level of accuracy, attention and care. Over the coming years, I hope to further my career with Elite Hotels through one of their development programmes and hopefully take on a managerial role in the future.”
Jonathan Webley, general manager of The Grand, said: “Since Melissa joined the events team she has really grown into her role and supported both the events and reservations teams with her knowledge and experience. She has shown ambition and initiative in assisting the events team as well as supporting the conference and banqueting team to ensure all functions and meetings run smoothly. Melissa is a very deserving winner for all she has contributed to The Grand and to the events department.”
