Executive Head Chef at The Grand Hotel, Hrvoje Loncarevic, alongside Training Officer Simon King, recently visited the students at Willingdon School for a live cooking demonstration and informational talk about the hospitality sector.
Here is what Chef Hrvoje had to say about the day...
"Having recently become a School Enterprise Advisor for Willingdon School, Eastbourne, I was approached to do a Pastry dish demonstration for a group of Year 10 students who are currently studying hospitality and catering GCSEs.
The dish chosen was a 'Lime Possett' with a raspberry and shortbread crumb as this enabled me to demonstrate the cooking techniques and it happens to be one of my favourite dishes, which can easily be made at home for any occasion.
From this session, we have already confirmed work placements with the school for next year, including in the kitchen, as a result of the demonstration."
Simon King then went on to inform the student’s about the fantastic career opportunities within hospitality such as apprenticeships, the many perks of working in the sector, potential career progression, the path to becoming a manager and what salary ranges you can expect to earn.
The students were wowed by the cooking demonstration and many were left wanting to cook the Lime Posset themselves using Hrvoje's recipe, many were also blown away by the edible gold and flowers. The students left the session talking about the different careers available and can't wait for their careers to start.
